Voices for Community Inclusion

This video from Bangladesh shares the story of Rakib Siddiquee, a Deaf person with psychosocial disabilities, who speaks about the challenges he faces in daily life, violence, forced medication, no safety in public spaces, and limited support. Despite these barriers, Rakib continues to pursue his passion as an artist, teaching children with autism and contributing to the crafts industry through his work.

His brother, Rejaul Karim Siddiquee, reflects on the urgent need for a safe environment, accessible mainstream services, and stronger community support for de-institutionalization.

Their message underscores that dignity, safety, and inclusion are essential for persons with psychosocial disabilities to live and thrive in the community.

Through the #WhatWENeed Campaign, TCI continues to highlight these lived realities and the ongoing call for rights-based, community-based support systems around the world.

Beyond Institutions: A Call for Inclusion

Brian, a young man with a psychosocial disability, shares a powerful message on the urgent need to end institutionalization and promote community inclusion. Speaking from lived experience, he highlights that inclusion is not charity it is justice. Referencing Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the video calls for the right of all persons with disabilities to live independently, make choices about where and with whom they live, and be fully included in their communities.

The video advocates for community based support systems, accessible housing, personal assistance, peer support, inclusive education, and employment opportunities ensuring dignity, autonomy, and equal participation for all.
