#WhatWENeed is a global campaign made up of a loose collective of individuals, organizations, and movements primarily rooted in the Global South (Asia, the Pacific, Africa, Latin America) and with members and solidarity contributors from the Global North and other regions. This campaign is a coming together of voices to challenge medicalized, coercive and exclusionary approaches to psychosocial disability and to imagine rights based mechanisms and processes.
The campaign contributes to World Mental Health Week and is active during October–December each year. It is run on a voluntary basis and is not a legal entity or organisation.
#WhatWENeed serves as an open campaign space for diverse reflections, lived realities, creative expressions and advocacy perspectives from different contexts and regions of TCI members and networks. The views, experiences and positions shared through submissions are those of the individual authors and contributors. They reflect the richness and plurality of our movement and the different paths, contexts and struggles through which people engage with psychosocial disability.
While TCI holds clear rights based positions grounded in the CRPD, publication as part of the #WhatWENeed campaign does not imply endorsement of every view expressed, nor does it seek to impose a single narrative. Rather, the campaign reflects our commitment to centring voices of persons with psychosocial disabilities, creating space for dialogue, debate, solidarity and collective imagination across movements and geographies.
